Statue of Liberty

With only a few days in New York, I wasn't sure whether to do the statue of liberty or not. But I'm so glad I did. The boat trip over was very cold and windy but definitely worth the amazing views and the experience of seeing the famous landmark. It was very surreal and the bluey-green colour of it really brightened up a rather cloudy day. Interestingly, the statue of liberty is made from copper and when first put up it was a redish brown but the chemical reactions between metal and water have caused it to go green over time. The torch has stayed gold because it was coated in gold leaf on the statues 100th birthday. Interesting stuff!

New York Public Library

To anyone planning on going to NY, I would highly recommend visiting the NY public library. It really is a magnificent building and so beautiful on the inside as well. And of course many films have been shot here like SATC and The day after tomorrow...

A lovely cafe!

So me and my friends were looking for somewhere to eat lunch in NY that wasn't a fast food place or some sort of health store. Luckily we found this very nice cafe and ended up going their twice! And the brownie was incredible!

NYC @ night

To get a glimpse of the NY skyline at night I decided to go up the Rockefeller Centre and I'm so pleased I did because this way it meant I could capture the empire state building rather than being up it! New York at night is quite simply stunning.

A few of my favourite things...

Now this is the kinda store that I like. Not just because the clothes, handbags and shoes are beautiful but because to go to this store, even if you don't purchase a single thing, is still an amazing experience. The exterior of the store, as you can see, is amazingly beautiful! And anyone walking by must be tempted to go in!
Another store that I have a little weakness for is Michael Kors.. where I couldn't help but pick up one of these little beauties...

My favourite store had to be Miu Miu. Sadly I wasn't allowed to take any pictures but it was like any girls dream. Pastel and glitter heaven. It was insane.

And it was the shoes like this that really stood out...

Miu Miu have recently brought out fashion week bags, here's a selection of them:

They are so pretty... I don't think I could pick just one!

Central Park

Now I'm probably gonna get some abuse for saying that I wasn't very impressed with Central Park. But I arrived with high expectations of what I had seen in the movies... and then I realised that in the movies Central park had either been captured as a beautiful snow scene... like Home Alone or on a gloriously sunny day with a bunch of half-naked men and women practising yoga or is it Tai Chi? So to my disappointment it looked more desert like and quite frankly a bit bare. But this could be a bit biased as I am from the Cotswold's, so I'm kinda used to lots of parks and well grass I suppose...

However, two things did put a little smile on my face. Well actually I've just though of another, so three. Firstly, this lovely little squirrel that I captured up a tree.. I've always had a bit of a soft spot for these little creatures.

Secondly, these wonderful men performing a lovely little duet to the passers by...

And lastly, this truly magical moment. I went back to Central Park at night to see the ice skating and thank god I did, because a charming gentlemen proposed to his girlfriend on the ice... It was beautiful. Unfortunately, my photograph doesn't capture the moment too beautifully, but you should be able to spot them!

Macy's

Macy's really is the largest store that I've ever been in but thankfully it wasn't difficult to find my favourite part of the department store; the beauty department. Ideally it is almost, always situated right at the front of any department store. This is for people like me who get drawn in by the beautifully lit up counters with rows of different eyeshadows and lipsticks. Jars of so called 'miracle creams', cleansers, toners and exfoliators. And assistants with their hair pulled into a tight bun, showcasing their flawless skin and crimson stained lips - very sophisticated, although a little intimidating. Not dissimilar to the Virgin Atlantic flight attendants on the way in.

ANN INC

So it's my first day in New York City and I have a two hour presentation with the big american retailer ANN INC. I am slightly ashamed to say that before today I didn't have the foggiest idea who Ann Taylor or Loft was but after finding out that Ann Taylor wasn't a middle aged woman but a best selling shirt dress and that the first Ann Taylor store opened in Connecticut in 1954, I became very inspired by the company. In 2006, Loft became a one billion dollar brand. Loft's brand mission is "The trusted personal stylist for the woman who leads a casually layered life." Loft is fashion foreward, accessible, youthful and fun. These two brands provide a destination for every generation of modern, working women. Ann Taylor has had a range of celebrity endorsements from Katie Holmes to Debbie Moore, with the current face being Kate Hudson.

Girls were picked to be brand ambassadors for Loft (Loft girls), with this came the slogan "This is you. This is now". Loft was ranked #2 in brand advocacy, with Victorias Secret being #1. Proving that Loft was doing incredibly well. This year Loft hope to see 2 million facebook fans. Good luck to them!
